   The highlight for me on this CD is the passionate, but subtle "Tchaikovsky: Serenade For Strings In C, Op. " I found the strings in "Massenet: Thaïs" whiny, and usually skip it. Beethoven's "Minuet In G, WoO 10/2" lilts and moves along without drawing much attention to itself. Pleasant, and perfect for listening while focused on other things.5/5(4).

   The Faure in particular is a delight, with its exuberant third movement and introspective second. Complementing these sonatas are the Meditation from Jules Massenet's opera Thais and Camille Saint-Saens' Havanaise. Ma's interpretation of the Massenet work is truly intense and Romantic, but not always meditative/5(16).

   Today Jules Massenet is best known for the operas Manon and Werther and the solo violin Méditation, from Thaïs. During his lifetime, however, Massenet was one of the most prolific and celebrated operatic composers on earth. The public anxiously awaited his output, and Massenet became both wealthy and famous practicing his craft.

   Vielen Klassiklaien fällt beim Namen Jules Massenet () zu allererst die "Méditation" aus seiner Oper "Thaïs" ein. Wenige aber, die die Oper wirklich kennen.    May 31,  · This superbly presented performance of Thais adapts well for the small screen. Better still, it presents the inspiring music of Jules Massenet to the best possible effect in this medium. I sat enthralled, watching and listening throughout.
