Product description. Remastered edition, with 4 bonus tracks. Originally released in early , Monk's Dream was the first Thelonious Monk album for Columbia. At the time this was recorded (fist sessions on Halloween, ), he had become one of the preeminent figures in contemporary jazz/5().

Monk's Dream is the Columbia Records debut release featuring the Thelonious Monk Quartet: Monk (piano), Charlie Rouse (tenor sax), John Ore (bass), and Frankie Dunlop (drums). Jazz scholars and enthusiasts alike also heralded this combo as the best Monk had been involved with for several years. Although he would perform and record supported by various other musicians, the tight -- almost 10/

Monk's Dream is probably the best known of Monk's massive body of work & for good reason! He's created a playful, funny, beautiful & moving soundscape here which offers something new every time. It's obviously an instrumental album so if you are looking for vocals, this ain't it/5().

Apr 29,  · referencing Monk's Dream, 2x12", Album, Ltd, Num, RE, RM, + Box, UD1S , This is probably the last One-Step that I will buy. First of all, the sound is immaculate and the quality control of the packaging is probably better than before (for instance my Bill Evans Portrait in Jazz came with wear all over the inner jackets)/5(K).

Mar 30,  · If you're saying Monk's creative juices had begun to dry up by the time he signed with Columbia Records and released this label debut album you'll get no argument from me. But Monk, all of 46 when this was recorded, had a secret weapon: his rock'n'roll band of the hard-blowing Charlie Rouse on tenor sax, John Ore on bass and Frankie Dunlop on drums.
  7. Misar says:
Throughout, Monk's Dream conveys an exhilarating freedom that mirrors the improvisational twists, dissonant techniques, and melodic turns Monk embraced not only in the studio (and on the stage) but in everyday life. Considered by some to be too idiosyncratic for his own good, his flawless craftsmanship, underlying irreverence, and deep-seated.
  8. Daitilar says:
Monk's Dream marked the beginning of Thelonious Monk's six-year association with Columbia, and though it broke little new ground with the appearance of only one new composition ("Bright Mississippi," based on the chord changes to "Sweet Georgia Brown"), he finally began to reach a wider audience with his first major-label contract. Accompanied by tenor saxophonist Charlie Rouse, bassist John Brand: Sony.

Monks’ Bread and Monks’ Specialty Bakery are works of the Trappist monks of the Abbey of the Genesee in Western New York. Manual work is an integral part of Trappist life. The bakery supports the monastery's primary mission of prayer.
